Food license deadline extended

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has extended the date for all food operators to get food licenses to six months. The proposed date was 4th February which has been extended to 4th of August 2014.

Originally, after the regulations came into force, the last date for licensing and registration of food business operators (FBOs) was August 5, 2012. However, as the process was not even half way in most of the states by the said date, it was extended to Feb 4, 2013 but once again the Authority extended the date by one more year, i.e. 4th February 2014. On the said date, the latest extension of six months was announced.

B C Bhartia, National President, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), said, “I would like to thank Azad for taking cognizance of the sufferings of the trading community. Certainly, it is a relief to traders and citizens of the country but we will continue to fight since the Act has various anomalies and disparities.
