Starbucks Canada will soon launch its very first faux-meat menu item, the Beyond Meat, Cheddar and Egg Sandwich. This is the first plant-based “meat” to be incorporated into any Starbucks menu item across the globe.

The new meatless breakfast sandwich will be part of Starbucks Canada’s core menu, providing customers a compelling new choice for breakfast. It will be available at its nearly 1,200 coffee shops across Canada.

The coffee chain worked directly with Beyond Meat to create a delicious recipe uniquely designed with the Starbucks customer in mind.

Rosalind Gates Brewer, COO of Starbucks, said, “We will be introducing a breakfast sandwich this year with a plant-based patty both in U.S. and Canada, and the combination of those pairings is significant for us in terms of how we think about what the customer is asking for us to develop.”

Ethan Brown, Founder and CEO, Beyond Meat, stated, “We're thrilled that Starbucks is introducing the Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich as a core menu item at all stores across Canada. We believe the offering delivers on our promise of enabling consumers to Eat What You Love while also enjoying the nutritional and environmental benefits of plant-based protein.”

New meatless breakfast sandwich

The meatless breakfast sandwich features a plant-based patty topped with cheddar cheese and egg on an artisanal bun.

This Beyond Meat patty is made with a unique blend of herbs and spices, featuring oregano, basil, rosemary, and fennel. These ingredients have been designed for complementing the flavors Starbucks customers know and expect.

The patty is made with plant-based protein derived from peas and brown rice.

The sandwich contains 25 grams of protein, and nearly half (10 grams) of that comes from the patty itself.

Other fast food chains into plant-based offerings

Dunkin' Brands Group Inc expanded its Beyond Sausage Sandwich to all its US stores in November.

McDonald's Corp is also testing its plant-based "P.L.T." burger, using Beyond Meat patties, in Ontario.
