Restaurants in Pune to close by 10 pm, no delivery post 11

With rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Pune, the Maharashtra government has announced restaurants and hotels to close by 10 pm.

Restaurants and hotels across Pune is fearing drop in sales after the state government announced new restrictions, limiting hotels and restaurants to function till 10 pm.

The government has also permitted the food deliveries to be made available till 11 pm.

“A 10 pm closing deadline means we cannot admit customers from 9:30pm, or even before. The hour more for takeaways is not of much use, as most deliveries happen between 7:30pm and 8:30pm. Restaurants have to bear expenses for electricity, rent and excise,” said Ganesh Shetty, president of the Pune Restaurant and Hoteliers Association.

Restaurants owners are also apprehensive of the recovery as the pandemic hit the restaurant business at large and the sector is still managing to cover that loss.
