“There’s resurgence underway on the lower half of Polk Street, San francisco and it started with the bar/cocktail scene,” said partner Anamika Khanna. “We’re excited to add a bright, energetic food-first restaurant, the same way we were one of the early pioneers in putting the Castro dining scene on the map five years ago.”

This is the second venture by the Kasa in the city, joining the 5-year-old Castro location. This time around, the Kasa crew has staked out the high-profile corner of Polk and Pine, best known for its tenure as Polk Street Station years ago. After a short-lived coffeeshop went kaput, the corner has finally been rejuvenated as Kasa.

Kasa has also planned to open a late night kati roll window, open until 2am; once this restaurant is settled. The eye-catching design of the bright and airy “chandelier” made of 20 antique bronze bells that Khanna’s mother salvaged from old temples in India.

The 35-seat fast casual restaurant, designed by ABMO Architects, will focus on  kati-centric menu as the Castro location, though Khanna is delving deeper at both locations with her “Small Batch Specials” dishes like Baingan Bharta (eggplant and peas), Saag Paneer, Bhindi (okra with pomegranate seeds), and Shulgum (turnips). They’re also debuting a new ice cream with Humphry Slocombe, based on their Kasa Chai recipe. Eventually, they’re hoping to procure a beer and wine license too.
