Restaurants Across World Seek Help Through Vouchers, Pre-Bookings and Gift cards

In the times of coronavirus, where restaurants are facing a severe financial challenge, gift cards, vouchers and pre-bookings are coming to be a great rescue. Restaurants like Noma in Denmark and Together at 12th in India are making their pre-bookings available to people in order to support their team in these difficult times.

Dineout, a third-party facilitator between restaurants and customers has also recently announced its initiative to provide support to its member restaurants. In this, people can buy a voucher of worth up to Rs 1000 in advance and then the full amount will be directly transferred to the restaurants registered to its platform.

It aims to leverage over 5 million strong user-base to provide necessary stimulus in order to cushion losses borne by its community of 20,000 partner restaurants due to the current nationwide shutdown.

Dineout has introduced restaurant vouchers worth Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000, redeemable in the next 6 months, providing diners the comfort of post-dated redemption of discounts while providing the restaurants with a much-needed cash-flow to pay off their impending costs and support their employees.

Additionally, Ankit Mehrotra – Co-founder and CEO at Dineout has also filed a petition supporting NRAI on Change.org, requesting the Finance Ministry and Government of India to help restaurants with employee unemployment pay cover, a moratorium on upcoming statutory dues, delay in utility bill payments, holiday/temporary stoppage on EMI payments and interest, freezing rental dues and restoration of Input Tax Credit on GST for all restaurants.

Restaurant India recently reported that Together at 12th  restaurant has opened up its advance 5-course meal booking called ‘Together Thank You meal’ for its customers where a customer can pre-book the meal to support this restaurant reeking under the losses due to the outbreak. The 5-course meal with two signature cocktails for Rs 2500 will be specially curated by chefs to give a unique experience to its customers.

Nitin Tiwari, Partner at Together at 12th had told that this initiative is inspired by Rene Redzepi’s similar approach towards asking for support from people. The famous Noma restaurant, where Rene works has launched gift cards, which people can buy to redeem it later.

“As we continue to face unprecedented difficulties, both at Noma and across our entire industry, we truly appreciate your interest in purchasing a voucher. Vouchers can be purchased for a minimum of 5,000 DKK and are valid for two years. Each voucher will be redeemable for a future reservation at restaurant Noma as well as for a future reservation or visit at any Noma-branded pop-up restaurant or event in or outside Denmark,” Noma said.
